Indications

Depression, amitriptyline hydrochloride is given by mouth initially in a daily dose of 50 to 75 mg in divided doses (or as a single dose at night). Thereafter, the dose may be gradually increased, if necessary, to 150 mg daily, the additional doses being given in the late afternoon or evening. Doses of up to 200 mg daily and, occasionally, up to 300 mg daily have been used in severely depressed patients in hospital.
